Combustion Technologies

Hydrogen has the highest heat of combustion (calorific value) among all fuels, on a mass basis, about three times higher than diesel. Hydrogen combustion technologies provide a clean alternative to fossil fuels by leveraging the unique combustion properties of hydrogen, which burns with oxygen without producing any carbon dioxide emissions. Hydrogen’s combustion potential spans across various sectors, from heavy transportation such as marine, railway, and aviation to stationary power generation. Indeed, if green hydrogen is utilised, hydrogen combustion has the potential to become the cornerstone of future green propulsion and power generation. This section will discuss the challenges, key performance indicators, and realistic technical targets that must be achieved across different hydrogen combustion technologies to achieve this goal.
